About Ham and Petersham
Ham and Petersham lie between Richmond and Kingston, squeezed between the River Thames and Richmond Park. Petersham, the smaller village to the north, sits along the A307 Petersham Road below Richmond Hill. Ham, to the south, centres on the large Ham Common, with Ham House, a 17th-century National Trust house, beside the river.
Neither has a railway station. The nearest are Richmond, Kingston and Teddington (via the footbridge at Teddington Lock). That makes a pre-booked car especially useful for airport runs and early trains.

- Gatwick. Often via Kingston and the A3. See Gatwick.
- Richmond and Kingston stations for onward trains, or straight to central London termini such as Waterloo.
- Local trips to Kingston for shopping or Kingston Hospital.
Pick-up notes
Petersham Road is narrow in places and has very limited stopping, especially near Petersham village and the bends below Richmond Hill. If you live on or near it, add a note to your booking saying where the driver can pull in safely.
Ham has a mix of houses and estates with internal roads and shared car parks. Give your full address, block name if you have one, and any landmark that helps.
Ham Gate leads into Richmond Park. The park closes to traffic at night and has a speed limit, so drivers may not route through it.
Days out
Ham House and its gardens, the riverside path, and Richmond Park make Ham and Petersham a pleasant day out for visitors. If you are staying in a hotel elsewhere, see our hotel transfer taxi page. Travelling with a dog for a walk in the park? See our pet friendly taxi page.
Neighbouring areas
Ham borders Kingston to the south and Petersham and Richmond to the north. Across the river, via the Teddington Lock footbridge, is Teddington. Twickenham is reached by Richmond Bridge. On the far side of Richmond Park is East Sheen.
