Getting to Victoria from Richmond
London Victoria serves the south of England. It is the start of the Gatwick Express, Southern trains to Brighton and Sussex, and Southeastern services into Kent. Victoria Coach Station, for long-distance coaches around the UK and to Europe, is a short walk away.
From Richmond you can reach Victoria by District line, but it is a long Tube ride with many stops, and the station is busy with steps and crowds. A Richmond to Victoria station taxi takes you to the door with your bags, at a price agreed before you set off.
Journey time
Allow 30โ55 minutes. The route usually heads east through East Sheen and Putney, then crosses the Thames at Putney Bridge or Wandsworth Bridge and continues through Fulham and Chelsea, or stays south of the river towards Vauxhall. Weekday mornings and evenings are the slowest times.
Victoria is inside the central London Congestion Charge zone. During charging hours, this may apply to your journey. Check your quote to see how it is handled.
Victoria for Gatwick
Some people take a car to Victoria and the Gatwick Express from there. From Richmond, though, it is usually simpler to go straight to the airport by car, as you avoid a change and the journey time is similar. Compare both options on our Richmond to Gatwick taxi page.
Victoria Coach Station
If you are catching a coach, tell us the coach station rather than the railway station, as they are separate buildings. The driver will drop you at the most convenient permitted point. Coach departures are often very early or late, so a pre-booked car is helpful.
Drop-offs and pick-ups
The streets around Victoria are busy and stopping rules apply. Your driver will use a legal stopping point close to the station. For pick-ups:
- Give your train or coach arrival time and where it is coming from.
- Agree a meeting point. A named entrance works well.
- Keep your phone on after you arrive.
Coming home to Richmond
Arriving at Victoria from the coast, from Gatwick by train, or on a late coach? Book a pick-up and be taken straight home. On Friday and Saturday evenings, demand is high, so book ahead where you can.
Vehicle options
A saloon suits most station trips. For holiday luggage, or for five or six people, an MPV is the usual choice. See our 6 seater taxi page.
Other stations
Travelling north or west instead? See Paddington or Euston. For trains to Kent from the Strand, see Charing Cross.
Pick-ups across the area
Victoria bookings can start anywhere in our area. From East Sheen and Barnes, you are already on the eastern side of Richmond and close to the main route.
