About Twickenham
Twickenham is a riverside town on the west bank of the Thames, opposite Richmond. Its compact centre has shops, pubs and restaurants around Church Street and King Street, while the riverside has York House gardens and Eel Pie Island. To the north is the national rugby stadium, which brings big crowds on match days and for concerts.
Twickenham station has South Western Railway trains to Waterloo and Reading, and to Kingston on the loop line.
Journeys from Twickenham
When you book Twickenham taxis through us, a licensed private hire operator carries out your journey. Twickenham is well placed for:
- Heathrow. Often only 20โ35 minutes via the A316 and A30, or local roads through Whitton and Hounslow. See our Heathrow taxi page.
- Gatwick. Usually via the A316 and M3, then the M25, or through Kingston to the A3. See Gatwick.
- Central London stations. The A316 links into the South Circular and the A4.
- Local trips to Richmond, Teddington, Kingston and Hampton Court.
Match days and events
On rugby match days and concert days, roads around the stadium are closed or very busy, and parking is restricted across a wide area. If you need a car on an event day:
- Book early. Demand is high before and after events.
- Agree a pick-up point outside the closures. Walking a short distance to a quieter street is usually faster than waiting in traffic.
- Allow extra time, even if your journey is not going near the stadium.
If you are a group going to the match, see our 6 seater taxi page.
Pick-up notes
The town centre has a one-way system and limited stopping on King Street and London Road. A side road is often easier. On residential streets in Strawberry Hill and Whitton, give your exact address and any access notes.
Neighbouring areas
Twickenham borders St Margarets to the north-east and Teddington to the south. Isleworth is just to the north, and Hampton is to the south-west.
